A Few Final Thoughts

These thoughts are also available in the recipe card so that you can print them:

  • Adjustments: Tangy apples will need more sugar. I have used 2 cups of sugar (27 grams) here because the apples we have are tangy. However, you can adjust it as per the taste. To make this halwa, use the apples that are sweet. Avoid green apples.
  • Caution: Do not rest grated apples for long as with time they turn brown.
  • Additions: Add 1/2 tsp of cinnamon powder to further enhance the taste. Add 1 tsp of vanilla extract or kewda water for added flavor. You can add any dry fruit or nuts of your choice.
  • Substitutions: If you don’t like food color, you can get a bright color by caramelizing sugar or use the beetroot extract. Use a pinch of turmeric powder to get a yellow color. You can also use other fruits such as pears, mangoes, and other juice rich fruits to make this halwa recipe. If you are allergic to clarified butter, you can make this halwa in sunflower or coconut oil. You can blend apples to a smooth paste instead of grating them.
